Bald, Buzzed and Beautifully Dressed. Finding Your Own Style

Published on 2 November 2026 at 22:51

Who needs a hairstyle when you've got a whole wardrobe to play with?

One of the lovely things about being bald or closely cropped is discovering how different fashion choices work with your look.

And we're not just talking about statement earrings, although we absolutely need to talk about those!

From glasses and jewellery to colours, necklines, scarves and hats, there are countless ways to express your personality.

Of course, being bald doesn't automatically make someone interested in fashion. Some women love dressing up, while others are happiest in their jeans and trainers.

But if you enjoy experimenting with your appearance, there's plenty to explore.

Let's Start with the Earrings

There is something about a fabulous pair of earrings and a beautifully shaved head that just works.

Without hair covering your ears, jewellery can become a particularly noticeable part of your look.

Oversized hoops, colourful statement earrings, elegant drops, sculptural designs, delicate studs. The choice is enormous.

And you don't have to spend a fortune.

A simple black outfit with a striking pair of earrings can look just as stylish as something considerably more expensive.

If you've always played it safe with jewellery, perhaps this is your opportunity to experiment.

Try different sizes, shapes and colours. Notice what complements your face and what feels comfortable.

One small practical tip: if you're wearing large earrings for a long event, consider their weight. Fabulous shouldn't mean spending the evening with aching ears!

Necklines Can Make a Difference

Have you noticed how different necklines change the overall appearance of an outfit?

A high neck can create a clean, structured look.

An off-the-shoulder top might draw attention to your shoulders and collarbone.

A V-neck can work beautifully with a necklace, while a simple crew neck can provide the perfect background for a pair of dramatic earrings.

There aren't fixed rules about which neckline a bald woman should wear.

It's more interesting to experiment and discover what feels comfortable, flattering and appropriate for the occasion.

And don't forget the power of a beautifully tailored jacket. Sometimes that's all an outfit needs.

Colour, Colour and More Colour

Being bald can make you more aware of how clothing colours work alongside your skin tone.

Rich purples, bold reds, emerald greens, royal blues, warm golds and classic neutrals can all look striking.

But there's no reason to limit yourself to a particular palette.

One woman might love bright colours and strong contrasts. Another might prefer cream, black, camel or soft pastels.

Try holding different colours near your face and looking at how they work in natural light.

Do you enjoy the contrast? Does the colour complement the jewellery or make-up you're wearing? Most importantly, do you like how you look?

Those are far more useful questions than worrying about which colours you're supposedly allowed to wear.

Glasses Are an Accessory Too

If you wear glasses, your frames can become a significant part of your style.

Bold, oversized frames can create a distinctive look. Sleek metal frames offer something more understated. Cat-eye shapes, colourful frames and interesting materials provide even more possibilities.

And sunglasses? Well, there's a whole world of fabulous options.

Think about how your frames work with earrings, your face shape and the clothes you enjoy wearing.

You might prefer one favourite pair or enjoy having several options to match different outfits.

Whatever your preference, glasses can be practical and stylish at the same time.

Scarves, Hats and Headwraps

One of the misconceptions about bald women is that wearing a scarf, wig or hat must mean they're trying to hide something.

Sometimes a woman is protecting her scalp from the sunshine.

Sometimes she's keeping warm.

Sometimes she simply loves how a headwrap looks with her outfit.

And sometimes she doesn't feel comfortable showing her head that day.

All perfectly reasonable.

Headwraps can introduce beautiful colours, prints and textures to an outfit. Hats can add personality, and a carefully chosen scarf can be both comfortable and fashionable.

For women experiencing hair loss, having different options can be particularly helpful.

At Hair Not Necessary, we celebrate the freedom to wear your head uncovered, but equally the freedom to wear whatever makes you comfortable.

Nobody should have to prove their confidence by refusing a hat!

Dressing Up and Going Out

Now, let's talk about an occasion we're particularly looking forward to: the Hair Not Necessary Christmas Gala.

Imagine a room filled with beautifully dressed women, each bringing her own interpretation of black-tie glamour.

Some in elegant gowns. Some in stylish trouser suits. Some wearing magnificent earrings, others with beautiful headwraps or striking make-up.

Different ages, different backgrounds, different styles.

And not a single requirement to look the same.

That's part of what we want to celebrate.

Being bald doesn't determine how feminine, glamorous, fashionable or confident you can be.

You decide what those things mean to you.

Style Doesn't Have to Be Expensive

It's easy to assume that looking stylish requires designer labels or an enormous wardrobe.

It doesn't.

A well-fitting outfit, accessories you enjoy wearing and a little attention to how things work together can make a real difference.

Charity shops, independent designers, high-street retailers, vintage shops and online marketplaces can all offer interesting finds.

And sometimes the most stylish thing you can do is rediscover something you've already got in your wardrobe.

Experiment with different combinations before buying something new.

You may be surprised by how many looks you can create using what you already own.

Welcome to Your Style, Your Way

Through The Bald Edit, we'll be exploring fashion, accessories, beauty discoveries and products that might appeal to our community.

We'll feature interesting designers, beautiful jewellery, stylish headwear and practical finds, alongside tips from women who have developed their own distinctive looks.

And we'd love to feature your style too.

Have you found a pair of earrings you can't stop wearing? A brilliant headwrap designer? A favourite lipstick or a fabulous outfit that always gets compliments?

We want to know about it.

Because the most interesting style inspiration doesn't always come from magazines or fashion shows.

Sometimes it comes from the woman sitting next to you at lunch.

You don't need hair to have style. And you certainly don't need anyone else's permission to express it.

Hair Not Necessary. Bald. Buzzed. Bold.
