The Bald Edit

Everything you need to know about our community standards, podcast themes, and events. Hair Not Necessary is built on the belief that no woman ever needs to explain her appearance. Explore our frequently asked questions below.

Frequently asked questions

Whether you shaved your head out of style, experienced alopecia, are undergoing chemotherapy, or rock a buzz cut, you are warmly welcomed here. Here is how we protect emotional safety, respect choice, and celebrate individuality.

Can I join if I wear a wig, scarf, or head covering?

Absolutely. We celebrate choice above all else. Embracing women with little or no hair does not mean shaming head coverings. Wearing a wig, scarf, wrap, or hat is entirely your decision, and you are 100% part of our community.

Do I have to explain why I am bald or cropped?

Never. A fundamental principle of Hair Not Necessary is that you never need to justify or explain your hair loss or style. We do not rank reasons, and no one will ever pressure you to share medical details or personal history.

What are your core community standards?

We cultivate emotional safety and mutual respect. We uphold strict rules against body shaming, unsolicited medical advice, commercial spam, or invasive questions. Everyone deserves to feel secure, seen, and valued.

Can partners, family, or friends come along?

Yes! While certain gatherings remain dedicated women-centred safe spaces, our flagship events and designated open meetups warmly welcome allies, partners, and friends who want to celebrate alongside us.

What is 'The Bald Truth'?

'The Bald Truth' is our podcast segment tackling honest opinions, societal myths, listener questions, and raw discussions about living without hair in a society obsessed with it.

What are the 'Beyond the Hair' and 'Bald and Styled' strands?

'Beyond the Hair' covers personal journeys, career experiences, relationships, and identity outside of hair. 'Bald and Styled' celebrates aesthetics: scalp care, skincare, bold earrings, makeup artistry, hats, and fashion expression.

Where do your live meetups take place?

We host regular social gatherings across London and the UK, including our 'Bald and Brunching' socials, style workshops, and our annual flagship celebration featuring panels, portrait exhibitions, and live podcasts.

How can I listen or watch the podcast?

The filmed podcast hosted by Dionne Lewis-Reid and Thanyia Moore is released fortnightly on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. You can catch previews and full conversations directly on our site.
